: a time frame encompassing the months of May (Ma), June (ne) and July (ly)
Also could be defined as long.time.no.post!
Since April, my life has been consumed with visitors, work, travel and more visitors (we have my uncle Pat and cousins, Colleen and Courtney, staying with us until later this week in between lacrosse tournaments!). I vow to dedicate more time (that I don't have) to posting in the coming months. Speaking of vow, Mr. Cuddles and I have officially been married over a year! Time flies when you have "Happy Days":

Moving on, I'm not sure about you all but us DC folks are feeling hot, Hot, HOT. Summer is officially here and so is relative humidity. Relative humidity not at the top of your "need to know" list? Mine either until Mr. Cuddles went into what seemed like a Tourette syndrome induced episode at the corner of Dean and Deluca and Georgetown Cupcake explaining that yesterday's relative humidity was 70, which is fairly close to 80 and when you get to 80 you're teetering on the verge of "oppressive." Say what? Thank goodness someone in our family spends the better part of his free time reading because I wouldn't spend five minutes scanning categories of hurricanes much less ranges of relative humidity. To each his own.
During yesterday's "on the verge of oppressive" weather I decided to treat myself to a pedicure while Mr. Cuddles was getting his hair did at the new men's grooming lounge. One color, five words: OPI's Chillin' Like A Villain. Back to my whole nude phase (not naked, nude), this is the perfect pale peach to give you...just enough. Your feet - or hands - will thank you!
On the same note, here are a few of my Summer solutions:
For you...
- Beachy belt | JMcLaughlin | Keep it simple with a white tee, boyfriend jeans and sandals.
- Clutch clutch | Everyday | Night | Go bold while carrying less.
- Credit check | Credit card holder | For your clutch clutch :)
- Diamond in the rough | Jewelry cleaning gel | Use this on diamonds, precious metals and stones.
- It's in the bag | Calypso St Barth | Beach/boat/pool tote.
- Perfect pullover | JCrew coverup | I order a size up so I can wear it to casual resort spots without feeling like a hoochie.
- Post pool product | The Wet Brush | If you have naturally curly, wavy or knotty hair, this is for you.
- Pouch | Mark and Graham | Travel-friendly yet durable.
- Pout | Vaseline, Rosy Lips | Moisturizing, natural hue.
- Protect yourself | Neutrogena | This is my go-to, non greasy sunscreen.
- Quick fix | Evian Mineral Water Spray | Go for the glow? Steamy Summer day? Spray about six inches from your face and you'll be fresh faced and fancy free.
- Red's | If you think Ray-Ban's are yesterday's news.
- Turkish Towel | Lightweight and ideal for travel.
- Work-life wear | JCrew Factory | Heels or flats, you decide! I wear both and transition between work and play.
For your home...
- Casual comfort | Sunbrella | Check a Costco near you! I bought four for $50.00.
- Delightful drink | Deep Eddy Ruby Red | Splash of soda and low calorie lemonade and you're in deep trouble.
- Hangover helper | Fat and Juicy | You'll find it at specialty food markets or online.
- Harman | Drying mat | Check your local Marshalls or Home Goods for more exciting patterns.
- Soak it up | Soaker hose will do the watering for you.
- Welcome | Wayfair entry mat | Recently ordered this one from H&M (who knew they had housewares?) and am loving the classic stripe look.
- Weather update | Weather station | So you, too, can be a relative humidity expert.
In closing, I hope everyone had a wonderful July 4th weekend! Thankfully, Arthur only dumped a bit of rain on our group in Bethany Beach and a good time was had by all.

A H I T U N A L E T T U C E W R A P S
At a fundraiser in New Jersey last week, I got to talking with the "chef" while complimenting his array of hors d' oeuvres. Little did I know Jay is actually a bartender who clearly missed his calling. Being a sushi lover, the tuna avocado poke was calling my name. So much so that I asked Jay for the recipe and made it my own:
You'll need
1/2 lb sushi grade tuna
1 ripe avocado
1/4 cup diced scallions
1 cup ripe mango
1/2 tsp sriracha sauce
1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
1tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp agave or honey
1 tbsp fresh grated ginger
Juice from half a lime
Salt & pepper to taste
Butter lettuce or endives
How-to
Rinse tuna. Mix half inch bites of tuna, avocado and mango with scallions. Stir in sriracha, toasted sesame oil, soy sauce, agave (or honey!), ginger lime juice and season to taste. Once everything is well mixed, serve in butter lettuce wraps or endive boats. This recipe is a perfect meal for two or can be served as an appetizer.

Seasonal Serving
This dish is like a good furniture accent...it's so colorful you don't need much else. I do think it would work just swimmingly (Lord, was that a Carol Harman pun?) lumped on a fish-shaped platter served with cassava or wonton chips. For individual portions, consider glass ramekins or Chinese spoons so folks can see the natural colors of the tuna, avocado and mango.
Cakes' Commentary
With the August congressional recess looming, I am looking forward to some more down time with my family. I am also looking for new ways to do old things. If you have any Summer "must reads" or things on your to-do list that I should consider doing myself, please email me!
